Seeds and Soil Organics began in 2016 with a commitment to strengthening food security in Alaska through deep ecological gardening knowledge. Rooted in agroecology and permaculture ethics, the farm evolved in 2019 to develop a dedicated seed program focused on regional adaptation, resilience, and respect for local ecosystems. Working in one of the world’s most challenging climates, the farm embraces observation, patience, and long-term relationships between plants, soil, and place.
At the heart of Seeds and Soil Organics is a regenerative, bio-intensive approach centered on living soil. Minimal disturbance, no tillage, and careful soil stewardship guide every decision, allowing microorganisms, fungi, and natural nutrient cycles to thrive. No pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, or single-use plastics are used—only ecological processes that build fertility, biodiversity, and climate resilience. Seed saving is treated as an agroecological act, selecting plants that adapt over generations to Alaska’s light cycles, cold soils, and short growing seasons.
As a small family farm, Seeds and Soil Organics sees farming as both a practice and a responsibility. By saving heirloom and open-pollinated, non-GMO seeds, offering educational classes, and sharing knowledge openly, the farm supports seed sovereignty and community resilience. Each seed carries the memory of the land it was grown in—an expression of care for earth, care for people, and fair share, ensuring healthy food systems for generations to come.
