Numbi Valley De Rust Permaculture Farm

Numbi Valley De Rust Permaculture Farm

South Africa

Descripción breve del lugar y las prácticas

Numbi Valley Farm, nestled in the peaceful Klein Karoo region of South Africa, stands as a living example of how permaculture and agroecology can guide regenerative ways of living. Fully off-grid since 2004, the farm integrates sustainable practices with deep respect for natural rhythms, working in harmony with water, soil, biodiversity, and energy cycles. Here, growing organic food is not just a task — it is a daily act of stewardship, observation, and co-creation with the land and climate.

Its flourishing organic gardens, olive grove, and naturally designed systems reflect core permaculture principles such as soil regeneration, water harvesting, natural building, and diversified food production. The self-built cob house embodies ecological harmony — simple, warm, energy-efficient, and deeply connected to the surrounding landscape. On the farm, every decision supports long-term ecological balance, prioritizing living systems over extractive approaches and honoring the land as a partner rather than a resource.

More than a sustainable farm, Numbi Valley is a place of learning, rest, and meaningful connection. Visitors are welcomed into a slow, nature-rooted rhythm of life, with a single private guest cottage overlooking the Olifants River valley and the Swartberg mountain range. With a natural plunge pool, outdoor firepit, wood-fired pizza oven, and offerings such as yoga, massage, farm tours, fresh produce, and scenic walks, the experience goes beyond accommodation. Numbi Valley invites guests to immerse themselves in a nourishing environment where simplicity, regeneration, and well-being come together — a reminder that living gently with the Earth is not only possible, but deeply fulfilling.

¿Qué sueñas para el futuro de la granja o del lugar en general?

We dream of continuing to grow as a thriving regenerative ecosystem where people, plants, animals, and the landscape coexist in balance. Our vision is to deepen our role as a living classroom for permaculture and agroecology, inspiring others to adopt more mindful and earth-centered lifestyles. We aim to expand biodiversity, strengthen soil health, increase food resilience, and nurture a community of learners, travelers, and caretakers who share a commitment to ecological stewardship. Ultimately, our goal is to show that sustainable living isn’t just an ideal — it’s a joyful, practical, and deeply fulfilling way to reconnect with nature and help create a more resilient future.
