Brève description de votre localisation et de vos pratiques

The "VivA Geomata Project – Agroecological Experience at Geomata" is a university extension initiative focused on urban agroecology and urban gardens. Based at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro's campus, the project promotes environmental education, well-being, and sustainable development through hands-on experiences and collaborative efforts. By integrating ecological practices into the urban landscape, VivA Geomata fosters a deeper connection between individuals, communities, and the environment.

Central to the project is the cultivation of urban gardens, which serve as both educational tools and spaces for community engagement. These gardens offer practical lessons in agroecology, enabling participants to understand the importance of sustainable food systems, soil health, and biodiversity in urban settings. Additionally, the project emphasizes the value of teamwork, inclusivity, and shared responsibility in creating resilient and green urban environments.

Beyond its environmental goals, VivA Geomata seeks to enhance the well-being of its participants and the surrounding community. The project recognizes the therapeutic and social benefits of gardening, creating a space where individuals can reconnect with nature, reduce stress, and foster a sense of belonging. Through workshops, collaborative planting activities, and educational events, VivA Geomata inspires a more sustainable and harmonious way of living, encouraging participants to carry these principles into their daily lives.

Quel est votre rêve pour l'avenir de votre ferme et/ou de votre site en général?

The VivA Geomata Project dreams of a future where urban spaces are transformed into thriving ecosystems that balance human activity with nature’s regenerative processes. Its vision is to inspire individuals and communities to rethink their relationship with the environment, making cities greener, more sustainable, and more inclusive. By integrating agroecology into urban life, the project aims to create a model where food production, environmental preservation, and social equity coexist harmoniously. This dream extends beyond the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro’s campus, seeking to influence urban policies and inspire similar initiatives in other regions.

One of the project's main goals is to expand its reach and impact, turning its urban gardens into hubs for education, research, and community empowerment. VivA Geomata envisions partnerships with local schools, NGOs, and public institutions to spread agroecological practices and promote environmental stewardship. It also aims to develop training programs that empower individuals to create and manage their own sustainable gardens. Ultimately, the project aspires to contribute to a larger cultural shift toward sustainability, demonstrating that small, localized actions can lead to transformative change on a global scale.
