Agrofloresta NHEENGATU

The Núcleo de Agroecologia Nheengatu ESALQ-USP, develops an agroforestry system (SAF) known as Agrofloresta Nheengatu. This SAF is an agricultural practice that integrates trees, crops, and sometimes livestock, promoting biodiversity and sustainable land use. The Agrofloresta Nheengatu is located on the ESALQ campus in Piracicaba, São Paulo, and serves as an experimental and educational space for students, researchers, and farmers interested in agroecological practices.

The management of Agrofloresta Nheengatu involves techniques aimed at balancing agricultural production with environmental conservation. Activities include intercropping native and exotic species, soil management, and biological pest control, with the goals of restoring degraded areas and promoting ecosystem services. Additionally, the space is used for hands-on classes, workshops, and collective workdays, providing practical learning in agroforestry systems and strengthening the connection between academia and the local community.
