Movimento Urbano de Agroecologia (MUDA-SP)
Movimento Urbano de Agroecologia is an initiative dedicated to promoting agroecology and urban agriculture in the city of São Paulo. Established in 2010, the movement aims to connect individuals, associations, and groups interested in cultivating food without chemical inputs, reclaiming public spaces, fostering closer ties to nature, and restoring healthy eating habits within the metropolitan area.
One of MUDA-SP’s notable initiatives is the creation of the "Edible Cities" platform, which maps community gardens, agricultural supply points, restaurants, and organizations aligned with agroecology in São Paulo. The platform encourages the formation of a collaborative network for sharing resources, knowledge, and labor among people interested in cultivating community and home gardens.
MUDA-SP has also hosted significant events, such as its inaugural gathering from October 12–16, 2013, held at the São Paulo Cultural Center. This event aimed to strengthen the urban agroecology network in the city.
In addition, the movement has engaged in awareness campaigns focused on sustainable practices like composting. For instance, MUDA-SP member André Biazoti played a key role in campaigns encouraging political candidates to advocate for composting as an environmentally responsible practice.
A Catalyst for Urban Transformation
MUDA-SP plays a vital role in advancing agroecology and urban agriculture in São Paulo. By transforming urban spaces into productive, sustainable areas, the movement fosters community participation and environmental education while promoting healthier lifestyles.
