Hortelões da Lagoinha

Brazil

Brève description de votre localisation et de vos pratiques

Since 2017, Hortelões da Lagoinha has been transforming vacant urban spaces into thriving community gardens, fostering agroecology, food sovereignty, and social connection in the heart of Belo Horizonte. Through collective action, we reclaim underutilized land, turning it into productive and welcoming green spaces where organic food is cultivated, and people come together to learn, share, and build a more sustainable city.

One of our main initiatives, "Quintal do Sô Antônio", serves as both a garden and an educational space, where community members and volunteers grow herbs, vegetables, and fruit trees while exchanging knowledge about sustainable agriculture. Our approach is based on cooperation, respect for nature, and creative urban occupation, ensuring that agroecology becomes a key element of a more resilient and humane city.

At Hortelões da Lagoinha, we believe in the power of grassroots movements to create real change. By integrating environmental awareness, cultural activities, and practical solutions for urban food production, we are building a model that inspires other communities. Join us in this journey towards greener cities—whether by volunteering, donating, or simply learning from our experiences, every action makes a difference!
